Nazare is so unique. Once we arrived we felt like we were in a different country! We stayed on the cliff, where the road to the Guinness book of world records for the largest wave in the world goes. It was very cool and windy when we were there in June so I imagine all year it’s pretty mild compared to other beach area’s in the country. Many of the older generation still dress in the traditional wear. Women wear multi layered petticoat skirts to their knees and head coverings, men where culottes with suspenders and toques . It’s really fun to wander around the market area in Sitio and try some nuts and dried fruits.
Wander down to the famous lighthouse on the point where the largest wave crests. Inside is a small museum that has some amazing photos of the brave surfers who take on the behemoth wave. If you are coming to see the big waves, then you will have to come in the winter. It is not guaranteed that you will see them. Contact these guys for more information on that.

There is a fabulous restaurant that was recommended by our Airbnb host, Sitiado. We went twice and were only in town for three meals! Check it out.
The next morning we walked down to the long beach below and strolled along the board walk. It was super charming and fun to see all the women in their traditional garb out, the old weathered faces of the fishermen drying their catch on string drying racks.  The town seems more touristic below with many hotels and guest houses, restaurants and shops. We were heading to Lagos so didn’t wander for more then a couple hours.
